Utilities Shift Engineers - New Zealand Opportunities

Job Description

Our Co-operative

Te Mātāpuna toa takitini

Fonterra’s strength is in the collective

We are a Co-operative created and owned by Aotearoa New Zealand dairy farmers. Our rich history is built on farming families working together to share the natural goodness of our dairy with the world.

Collaboration, innovation, and passion was the cornerstone of our creation and something we continue to value today through our commitment to care for the land, our animals, and every drop of milk. Our milk creates goodness through nutritious food with safe, quality ingredients that are loved here in New Zealand and around the world.

About the opportunity

Our commitment to dealing with climate change isn’t limited to our farms. We’re investing in innovation and infrastructure to remove greenhouse gas emissions from our manufacturing sites.

We’re on an exciting journey to ‘decarbonise’ our operational footprint and exit coal use by 2037 so there is no better time than now to be joining us.

As part of this journey, we are looking for great people with Utilities expertise (steam, boiler, refrigeration, compressed air, wastewater) who are keen to make an impact with the work they do.

We have a number of Energy Centre Shift Engineer and Boiler Operator roles available across New Zealand. These roles will utilise your knowledge across the operation and control of coal and gas boilers that provide steam services to plants as well as operating turbine, refrigeration plant, chilled water, and compressed air to our sites.

You’ll be the first point of contact for all plants and services and provide hands on maintenance work in the Energy Centres when required.

  • Energy Centre Shift Engineers – Waitoa, Waikato
  • Energy Centre Shift Engineers – Te Rapa, Waikato

About you

You’ll play a major part in our long-term plan of decarbonization and your passion for what you do and willingness to share your knowledge with others will be integral to supporting Fonterra’s ongoing sustainability journey.

You’ll need:

  • ENCHEM 4 NZQA qualification (or willing to complete an NZQA International Assessment and Recognition of Prior Learning)
  • Proven background in powerhouse and/or utility operations, preferably from a food or dairy environment
  • Familiarity with refrigeration plant, compressed air and demineralisation/treatment technology and operations and automated control systems.

The following, while not necessary, would be an added advantage:

  • Trade qualification
  • Familiarity with biomass and/or bubbling fluidised bed combustion technology.
  • Familiarity with steam turbines and potable water plant.

Our shift patterns are a rotating four on (two days and two nights), four off roster.

This is an ideal opportunity to join our NZ Utilities teams with real opportunities for improvement and world class best practice.
