About your role

This is a great opportunity to play an integral role in leading a Technical team to meet safety, productivity and operational objectives. Leading on the frontline is one of the most important jobs in our business and comes with a vast amount of responsibility. We need you to motivate, inspire and keep your people safe and well.

Reporting directly to the Manager – Technical Services, you will contribute to our Safe, Stable and Sustainable vision by:

Creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, supporting, mentoring, engaging, developing and coaching your team to achieve together
Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with site health, environmental and community policies, systems and procedures
Identifying, evaluating and implementing opportunities for process improvement with a focus on process safety, product quality, production cost and process stability (with minimal capital outlay)
Developing technical skills of individuals and the broader team, including communication skills, systems development and problem solving
Ensuring accountability for process monitoring and outcomes
Providing regular refinery performance reports
Maintaining and communicating area process plans aligned with planned operations and maintenance 
What you will bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you should have: 


Demonstrated experience as a safety leader with a passion to influence safe working methods amongst your team and a willingness to lead and implement change, influence and mentor others 
Tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent)
Experience within an alumina plant with a detailed understanding of the process interactions in all Bayer sections is highly desirable
Previous experience with Lean Six Sigma and Process Management Systems development desirable
The ability to successfully work within a team environment and build effective working relationships with your team, peers and leaders
Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads whilst ensuring accuracy in the workplace
The ability to effectively communicate, engage and build trust with your team and stakeholders
