The team is made up of five practitioners with a combined experience of over 60 years in Social Work, Education, Psychology, Disability and Mental Health. You will be made to feel welcome and supported as you transition into your position.
Are you ready for a change?
The role will be a dual position where you service clients requiring assessments and therapy specific to your profession. However, the difference is that you will also receive the mentoring and training to become a NDIS Registered- Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner.
In this instance we are looking for an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist to service clients in the Mackay Region. Permanent full-time working 37.6 hrs a week Mon – Fri, with the flexibility to work at home, depending on the requirements to meet business needs.
Must be a good communicator and a team player. An understanding of meeting KPI's would be beneficial. The role will require excellent written communication skills tailored to different audiences. Extensive report writing is required in this role, so good writing skills are essential.
Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner/OT/Speech Therapy
- Assess and design person-centred intervention services and therapy plans.
- Provide behavioural services to people with disabilities, focusing on decreasing challenging behaviours.
- This includes conducting behavioural assessments, including functional analysis.
- Formulate and implement behavioural interventions and strategies.
- Develop and implement a Positive Behaviour Support Plan and provide training to the implementing service providers.
- Monitoring the implementation and make changes where required.
- Provide behavioural advice, guidance to families, support staff and other professionals working with the client.
- Provide Restrictive Practice Positive Behaviour Support Plans with a focus on eliminating restrictive practice practices.
- Ensure that legislation regarding people with disabilities is adhered to, regarding the client's human rights.
- Provided 1:1 skill development focused on building capacity and improving the clients quality of life.
- Intervene when a customer’s human rights are not being met. Including QCAT applications.
- Provide Bio-psycho- social assessments to inform areas of need and create treatment plans with a holistic approach.
- Provide support to people experiencing social and interpersonal difficulties.
- Promote human rights and wellbeing through advocating for customers who are vulnerable.
- Provide reports for customers for the purpose of NDIS Review.

Essential Requirements
- Degree in Speech Pathology or Occupational Therapy and membership with your governing professional body eg. AHPRA.
- Professional experience relevant to service provision for persons with a disability, their families and key stakeholders.
- Experience and knowledge of challenging behaviours, intellectual disability and trauma.
- Well-developed knowledge of person-centred approaches.
- Minimum 12 months experience in the discipline of service provision.
- Current Positive Notice (Blue Card) for Child Related Employment issued by The Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian.
- Current working with disabilities (yellow card) check as required.
- Ability to become registered with governing professional body eg. AHPRA.
- You must also be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to obtain the required clearances for this role.
