The Role 

We have an exciting opportunity on offer as the Site Manager for our open cut coal operations at our Curragh Site based in Blackwater.

As the principal leader for the Curragh site, you will manage the performance of the 7 day back to back roster of a large workforce, with the assistance of 2 senior site supervisors.

Reporting to the Area Operations Manager, the Site Manager role is open to either a resident of the region (close to Blackwater and surrounding communities) or if you prefer, DIDO/FIFO arrangement we are open to options. Housing assistance will be provided if you choose to live locally.

In this role you will be an advocate of our Zero Harm safety culture and have an unwavering commitment to safety compliance on site. You will facilitate and deliver monthly safety meetings with the business and our customer. You will have the ability to understand legislation requirements relating to SSAN and explosive compliance.


About you

Your advanced people management skills, including leadership, will support the direct engagement that you will have with our customer on a daily basis. You will also have experience managing key site contractors and their compliance with our high standard of delivery. You will be a collaborative leader having the capability to impact and influence, whilst mentoring and coaching to ensure each operator is working at their full potential. You will maintain regular communications with the area asset and maintenance team to ensure that MPUs are efficiently maintained to the highest standard.

Your experience in the explosives/mining industry or heavy industry will assist you in ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of our SSAN storage facility on behalf of the customer.

In line with Dyno Nobel’s continuous improvement culture, you will identify performance improvement recommendations as well as manage internal and external audit requirements. You will be responsible for your sites’ operating budget and delivering year on year performance improvements in line with our customers’ requirements and business strategies and policies.  

You will also be required to manage the reporting requirements for internal and external KPI’s, forecasting, budgeting, cash fixed costs and asset/ resource supply demand models.

Your ability to develop and manage customer relationships while understanding customer profitability will see you thrive in this dynamic environment.

To be considered for this role you will possess a minimum of the following:

  • Minimum 5 years operational management experience in explosives/mining or within heavy industry
  • A solid understanding of commercial front line customer and client management
  • Preferred experience with emulsion matrix, bulk truck delivery and on bench blasting operations.
  • Experience with safety, environment, quality (ISO9000), maintenance and training systems.
  • Solid Knowledge of Coal Mining, Explosive Legislations and Codes of Practice (preferred)
  • Explosive/ Dangerous Goods Licence (highly desirable)
  • Shotfirer licence (highly desirable)
  • S1,2,3 (Essential)
  • G2 (Essential)
  • Ability to pass Coal Board Medical, physical and D&A Testing
