About the role:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Technical Manager at our Yarwun Site located in Gladstone, Queensland. Orica Yarwun manufactures Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate and Sodium Cyanide products which are used in Queensland mining operations as well as in the national and international mining industries. Orica has operated at Yarwun for over 25 years and is committed to the health and safety of employees and minimising the impact of manufacturing activities on the community and the environment.

The Senior Technical Manager is responsible for the technical function at site, including technical optimisation of operating processes, providing direction and management of solutions to immediate and longer-term process, safety, and environmental opportunities and issues, and ensuring knowledge transfer. Reporting to the Site General Manager, this role is a critical member of the Site Senior Leadership team.

What you will be doing:

  • Manages the overall technical support provided to the site for production, maintenance, projects, procurement, supply chain and broader business activities.
  • Accountability for process safety including Alarm Management.
  • Meeting site technical and environmental licence conditions.
  • Ensuring plant integrity and SHES risks are minimised through engineering design.
  • Development of the Technical Team to maximise potential and capability.
  • Align all behaviours with Orica’s Charter Values, Purpose and Strategy and set the Technical Team’s strategy and vision.
  • Accountable for process optimisation of existing plant and technology.
  • Accountable for management of all site technologies, and maintenance of technology plans, including process control plans, growth plans, footprint improvement plans.
  • Take a lead role in driving and implementing substantial plant improvement and optimisation projects.
  • Lead technical investigations to resolve complex and unique plant problems
  • Lead development and introduction of new capital projects.
  • Accountable for maintenance of technology plans, including process control plans, growth plans, footprint improvement.

What you will bring:

  • Role ideally suited to individuals with a minimum of (10) years’ experience in a similar role. 
  • Chemical Engineering Degree or equivalent (post-graduate highly regarded).
  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing principles in a continuous process environment. 
  • Proven knowledge in chemical engineering principles and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to understand and apply SHES, technical and manufacturing practises. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, including prioritisation, planning, task delegation, and coordination across multiple teams.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and creatively, and to implement plans effectively; and to tackle complex issues.
