About the Role


We currently have an opportunity to join our Health, Safety and Environment team as a Safety Specialist within the Non-Process Infrastructure, Major Shutdowns, Exploration and Engineering Team.


In this role, you will provide specialised safety advice, support and coaching for leadership and personnel to promote improved safety outcomes across the four key teams we support. The role will work a Monday to Friday roster from our Central Queensland office, and reports directly to the HSE Superintendent. Flexible work options will be considered.

In this role you will


  • Support line management in their accountability for HSE risk assessments, event investigation, field leadership and compliance to relevant HSE requirements;
  • Monitor the quality of HSE risk assessments, event investigation and field leadership;
  • Facilitate the communication between workgroups to ensure consistency in systems, processes, procedures and goals.
  • Coach, influence and provide technical expertise in service of building Safety and Health capacity and capability within operations / site based functions; and
  • Provide input into safety planning and risk management processes.


About You


You will be a self-motivated professional, ideally with experience within the mining or a relevant industry. Your communication and engagement skills will be strong and you will have a solid record of accomplishment of achieving results through influence, coaching and mentoring.


You will also have:


  • A proven passion for safety and a culture of care;
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in Health and Safety or related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in safety;
  • Coaching and mentoring skills with a genuine desire to help people, achieve solid outcomes and support continuous improvement;
  • Previous exposure to the mining and minerals processing industries is preferable; and
  • Knowledge of the WHS and QLD Coal Mining legislation is desirable.
  • A current Australian drivers licence
