About this Opportunity

The Rollingstock Superintendent is responsible for leading the rollingstock maintenance teams (up to 50 personnel) and ensuring the ongoing viability of the locomotive fleet, cane bine fleet, track plant fleet and group vehicle fleet. The superintendent will lead the safety, operational and technical aspects of this business unit and provide support to the Manager – Group Assets to enhance the future viability of Mackay Sugar. 

Reporting to the Manager – Group Assets the successful incumbent will:

  • Lead the rollingstock department in the enhancement and development of a safety culture, safe working methods, and safety improvement plans.
  • Lead the development of maintenance strategies for all fleet
  • Manage the work in line with the rollingstock maintenance budget
  • Ensure manning and rosters meet the needs of the business
  • Provide technical support, problem solving and troubleshooting support to the rollingstock business which covers locomotives, track plant, cane bins, and light and heavy vehicles.
  • Review and establishment of maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Develop strategies for extending the lifespan of the existing fleet and/or replacement with newer technologies
  • Ensure maintenance training requirements are identified and provided.
  • Review, track and ensure project SAP Master Data, Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures and drawings are updated.

As a minimum you will hold:

  • Minimum of 10 years technical experience in the rollingstock or heavy vehicle industries with a focus on maintenance and fleet upgrades.
  • Desirable to have Tertiary Qualifications in Mechanical, Automotive or Electrical Engineering (bachelor’s degree or higher) or alternatively a Diesel Fitting Trade qualification supported by extensive experience in technical support.
  • 5 years’ experience in business unit management including responsibility for team safety performance, team culture, personnel management, budget compliance and compliance with relevant statutory and operational standards.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Applications and Maintenance Management systems including Project Management Applications.
  • Able to develop concise and technically sound documents and have the ability to communicate these effectively to all levels of the business.
  • Proven leadership skills, strong personal drive to meet deadlines and targets
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills to interact with people at all levels.
  • Ability to manage numerous work fronts simultaneously.
