Rollingstock Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical)

Job Description

Location: Callemondah (Gladstone)

Remuneration/Benefit: Attractive remuneration offered

About the role:

At Aurizon, connection is at the core of what we do. More broadly, our strategy of growing regional Australia through connecting bulk commodities with the world is underpinned by creating a culture of connection. As an organisation, we have a strong focus on our regions and connection to where we operate.

We see rail differently. For us, it’s not just about providing a service. We know it’s the source that connects us all and it is why we are so passionate about what we do. Quite simply, we do rail differently, and this is where you come in…

As the Rollingstock Engineer, you are central to this connection. You play a key role in the imagination and implementation of value adding initiatives and are a vital conduit between the Asset Management and Strategy and our operating business units for the largest heavy haul rail operator in Australia.

Technology plays a key role in our future and we’re continuing to look at how we better leverage opportunities as we continue to lead the industry with our approach and application of technology – we know that status quo is not an option and continually challenging ourselves to be better in every aspect is paramount. We also know that technology isn’t also just about enhancing our asset base, but it’s vital when it comes to the environment and ensuring the sustainability of not only our organisation, but the world in which we operate.

About you:

If assets are your thing, you’ll get to work on part of Aurizon’s rollingstock fleet that consists of an impressive 500+ locomotives and 14,000+ wagons.

If location is your thing, we have this sorted too… being located in our regions means your combining the bush with the beach and the communities with the coast. Our regional locations are fundamental to our core business, but we also have some pretty great central locations too which could form a part of your future with Aurizon.

You love to engage and are a natural collaborator with a passion for making a positive difference through what you deliver.

You thrive on working in a dynamic and agile environment and value stakeholder engagement as this will be key to your success whilst working both on and with the business. Curiosity is second nature and combined with a high level of technical aptitude is what allows you to connect the bigger picture to the practical needs within the business.

You have a niche for driving simplicity when it comes to processes which also allows you to develop fit for purpose rollingstock solutions for new and existing businesses. A high level of priority is placed on actively driving efficiency gains and value adding initiatives that influences rollingstock maintenance, operations and reliability for medium term horizon opportunities.

But most of all, we want you to not only love what you do, but to come in, work with your team to take a pragmatic approach to solving complex problems, generate new ideas and thinking, challenge the status quo and be challenged. We get that work can sometimes be a little on the serious side, so we also want you to embrace the humour and have some fun in amongst it all.

In respects to the technicalities, you’ll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in either a Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics engineering field, CPEng and/or RPEQ certified (or have a clear plan to achieved status)
  • A proven work history when it comes to undertaking investigations, rollingstock testing, fault analysis, problem solving, trial modifications, rollingstock operation, reliability and maintenance and fault and failure interpretation and diagnostics
  • High level of skill in developing and continuously improving maintenance processes, strategies, scopes of work and modifications to improve rollingstock safety, performance, reliability and cost
  • High level of analytical and conceptual skills
  • High level of skill in communication to effectively liaise with other sections, external providers, suppliers, regulatory authorities, users and trade staff in the introduction of new technologies and techniques

What we can offer you: At Aurizon, we support the development and growth of our employees to reach their full potential.  With a National portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with long term and exciting career opportunities.
