In this role you will CQUniversity Australia’s Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre (CMERC) is situated on the shoreline of the Gladstone marina.  CMERC conducts research that works with nature to build an economically and environmentally sustainable future to enrich our coastal communities. As the Research Worker you will conduct data analysis, reporting and proposal preparation. You will also provide support to staff and students in various research-funded projects and support their laboratory and field work activities.

In this role you will be working alongside world-renowned researchers, contributing to CMERC’s various research projects by guiding researchers and research students in safe laboratory practice ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.  You will support laboratory and field work activities and conduct basic data analysis, reporting and proposal preparation as required. 

Position Requirements: 

  • Completion of a degree in a field related to the research project with some subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of an associate diploma and at least two years’ subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience within the disciplines of environmental science. 
  • Previous laboratory and fieldwork experience and the ability to work both independently and within a team to meet the requirements of laboratory and fieldwork schedules. 
  • Proven ability to organise work, meet deadlines and resolve problems with minimal supervision. 
  • Proven written and oral communication skills including the ability to interpret and translate industry students.
