What we do in Australia
ConocoPhillips Australia was established almost two decades ago. Headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland, we are a 47.5 percent shareholder in Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) and operate the APLNG facility on Curtis Island. As the largest producer of natural gas in eastern Australia, we supply Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. ConocoPhillips is also undertaking exploration activity in the Otway Basin to identify commercially viable natural gas reserves for supply to the domestic market.
About the opportunity
An exciting new position has become available at ConocoPhillips Australia. Reporting to the Reliability Supervisor, the Reliability Mechanical Specialist will be the most senior and experienced mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the APLNG site. The Reliability Mechanical Specialist plays a major role in ensuring the integrity, reliability, and cost-effective Maintenance and Operation of all static equipment on site. The position will cover all static equipment, but particular focus will be on Valves, Hydraulic Systems, Flange management, Lifting Equipment and Marine Loading Arms.
This newly created role is site-based at the APLNG Facility on Curtis Island, Gladstone working on a Monday to Friday work schedule.
Day to day, the Reliability Mechanical Specialist will be accountable for, but not limited to:
• Be the custodian of all Mechanical Systems and Equipment ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation including providing SME capabilities for:
- Flange Management
- Lifting and Lifted Equipment
- Manual and Actuated Valves
- Hydraulic systems
- Marine Loading Arms
• Deliver front line mechanical support and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment to Maintenance and Operations teams and lead the development and optimization of Mechanical Maintenance Strategies
• Provide ongoing support into the Mechanical technical training and competency of ConocoPhillips employees and core maintenance contractor personnel
• Support the Defect Elimination process, facilitate root cause analyses for mechanical systems and equipment and proactively identify opportunities for mechanical maintenance strategies
• Audit maintenance and preservation of equipment and parts, making recommendations to optimize inventory
• Budget forecasting, monitoring and maintaining costs
About you
You will be a suitably qualified, motivated self-starter with the ability to drive performance, engage across multiple functions with competing priorities and make timely and cost-effective decisions.
You will also bring to the role:
• Minimum 15+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in the oil and gas, petrochemical or heavy industry
• Experience in maintenance of a diverse range of process valves (including PSV’s) and Flange Management best practices
• Experience with hydraulicly operated process loading arms and lifting and lifted equipment
• Exposure to welding, pipefitting and fabrication techniques and best practices
• SAP experience or similar computer-based maintenance system
• Strong computer skills including the ability to develop technical reports
• Auditing qualifications or experience is preferred
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred
