About the role

We are looking for a Process Engineer (or Chemical / Process / Systems / Manufacturing Engineer) to join our team in our flagship Yarwun manufacturing site located in Gladstone, Queensland.

Orica Yarwun makes an important contribution to the local and broader community, employing more than 200 permanent employees and 100 contractors in the Gladstone area. The Yarwun facilities manufacture and supply critical products to the mining and infrastructure, agriculture and industrial sectors, with products including Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate, Sodium Cyanide and Ammonia.

Our manufacturing facility is in a great family friendly location on the Queensland coastline, offering various city and rural lifestyles. Supporting a balance between work and home, the candidate may choose between a 9-day fortnight or 5-day per week working pattern.

What you will be doing

•    Be responsible for the identification and management of operational performance parameters for the site’s production plants and provide input into daily production reporting and monthly planning;
•    Production reporting on daily, weekly and monthly frequencies;
•    Develop, maintain and improve the systems that support our operations, e.g. operating procedures, quality practices, action planning, skills training, etc.;
•    Support technical and engineering systems and tools (including safe and optimal operating envelopes) to guide operations;
•    Apply continuous improvement principles, including developing and leading improvement projects, waste reduction initiatives and quality assurance activities;
•    Provide day-to-day discipline engineering and process safety systems support to Operations and Projects;
•    Be involved in risk assessments, incident investigations and resolution actions;
•    Contribute to Management of Change processes, including providing discipline reviews;
•    Provide coaching and training through interaction with peer functions and departments.

What you will bring

•    A hands-on, can-do approach, with an entrenched safety focus;
•    A recognised degree qualification in Engineering (Chemical, Process, Manufacturing or Systems preferred);
•    3+ years continuous manufacturing experience, preferably in a Major Hazard Facility, petrochemical, power or chemical manufacturing;
•    Senior Engineers welcome to apply - remuneration will be commensurate with experience;
•    RPEQ (preferred) or able to obtain;
•    Demonstrated competencies in continuous improvement;
•    Well-developed numerical, analytical and systems skills; and
