Anglo American Steelmaking Coal
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
An opportunity exists for an experienced Mining Senior Official to join the team at our Aquila mine site in Middlemount. The Aquila project is an underground hard coking coal mine, which will extend the life of Anglo American’s existing Capcoal underground operations by six years, to 2028. As the largest underground coal miner in Australia, we are leveraging the innovative work already under way at our existing mine sites and scaling the development of new technologies in our operations.
The Aquila project is a further demonstration of our commitment to the Australian metallurgical coal business, and the Central Queensland communities where we operate.
Reporting to the Underground Mine Manager, the Mining Senior Official is responsible for the coordination of shift activities to ensure safe working conditions for all personnel at Aquila Mine.
While driving planned work within the mine, you will monitor, consult and make decisions to ensure the Operations teams’ production and maintenance targets are delivered safely and ensure statutory responsibilities are fulfilled.
You will use your leadership skills and knowledge to lead and mentor deputies and supervisors to identify areas for improvement and to deliver operational excellence.
Your proactive approach to safety and commitment to achieving Zero Harm will be the key to your success in this role.
