About the role

We are delighted to announce that an opportunity exists for a Mechanical Technician at our flagship Yarwun manufacturing site located in Gladstone, Queensland. This role reports to Superintendent - Maintenance Execution and the successful candidates will be a valued member of a dynamic, diverse and supportive team.

Orica Yarwun manufactures nitric acid, ammonium nitrate and sodium cyanide products which are used in mining, infrastructure, agriculture, and water industries locally, nationally and internationally.  Orica has operated at Yarwun for over 30 years and is committed to the health and safety of employees and minimising the impact of our manufacturing activities on the community and the environment.

The core focus of this role will be maintaining and driving the optimal maintenance plan to maximise plant efficiency and asset utilisation with your team of professionals in maintenance.

The role requires a dedicated and highly collegiate team member to ensure the safe and efficient functionality of the plant.  As a 24/7 manufacturing plant, the Mechanical Technician will need to balance maintenance activities and the demands of maintaining ongoing operations and customer supply.

What you will be doing

• Ensuring plant, equipment repairs, modifications and monitoring occur within health and safety guidelines;
• Investigating, analysing and determining root causes of mechanical plant failures;
• Coordinating and communicating with Planners, E&I Technicians, Engineers and Operations to complete and resolve both planned and unplanned maintenance activities;
• Participating in pre-shut-down work scoping and shut-down facilitation execution;
• Providing direction and control of breakdown work to ensure maximum output;
• Conducting maintenance tasks within a rigid planning and clearance to work system;
• Ensuring maintenance budget expenditure is targeted to the right plant and equipment to obtain maximum value.

What you will bring

• Mechanical Fitter and Turner Trade Qualification is required;
• Maintenance experience in a heavy industry/continuous manufacturing environment;
• Communication and coordination skills to work with engineering and operational teams;
• Dogger, basic rigger, forklift etc. experience/licenses are nice to have;
• Sound systems and administration skills to maintain our Maintenance Management System in SAP;
• Knowledge of maintenance methods e.g. preventative, predictive, condition monitoring;
• Ability to investigate problems, determine and implement root cause corrections; and
• Model resilience and flexibility; adapts well to new circumstances and adversity.
