Job Description

We have created the new role for a Mechanical Engineer to manage the compliance and auxiliary work at our Gladstone plant.

Home to Australia’s largest cement plant, the major assets include a 1.7 million tonne per year capacity clinker kiln, a lime kiln, cement mills and significant material handling equipment including stacking, reclaiming, product packaging, road and rail dispatch and bulk ship-loading. This role would also support various activities at our East End limestone mine.

Reporting to the Mechanical Services Manager, your role has a large scope that overarches and supports the team. You will focus on statutory and OEM compliance as it relates to infrastructure and asset life, particularly looking at integrity of structures and extending/end of life. This includes maintaining statutory registers and overseeing repairs to meet compliance. Where you will be able to have an impact on our assets is in your ability to assess a piece of structure/equipment, consider the work environment and risk then through projects to extend life, develop plans with a long term view.

About the role:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Lead the Design Safety and Construction Quality Program (DSCQP) for East End mine and Fisherman’s Landing (cement plant)
  • Develop and execute an asset maintenance plan for monitoring and inspections
  • Assess findings and develop a plan to monitor or repair
  • Scope and develop a budget, identifying cost saving opportunities
  • Manage and update mechanical asset life plans
  • Provide engineering support to capital projects
  • Identify and manage plant mechanical risks to achieve reliability and availability targets
  • Develop a process that identifies end of life assets
  • Develop reliability strategies based on RCM principles
  • Use condition monitoring principles to highlight equipment that is or is at risk of failing
  • Review, manage and build task lists / BOM into SAP, and
  • Manage third party contractors and service providers required for specific works

About you:

We are open to the level of experience you bring to this role. With that in mind, we are ideally looking for your profile to include:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Asset and maintenance management experience in a manufacturing or process environment, ideally with experience in tank or crane maintenance
  • Reliability engineering skills with a background in standards, RCM, CBM and failure analysis
  • Good communication skills, including effective report writing
  • Ability to perform plant troubleshooting and facilitate RCAs
  • Tech skills that ideally include SAP; and
  • An appreciation for the impact compliance and due diligence can have on reliability and availability.
