Job Description

Smit Lamnalco Towage (Gladstone) are seeking enthusiastic applicants for Trainee Masters position in Gladstone, to commence in January 2023.

The Trainee Master role is a developmental role, with the position taking on major activities as outlined in the Master - Australia JD which include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that the vessel operates efficiently and safely.
  • To ensure that the vessel remains within compliance of the requirements of all applicable rules, laws, regulations, guidelines, and practices of good seamanship at all times and maintains a high standard of housekeeping throughout the vessel.
  • Maintain in good order all shipboard files, certificates, and records, including the company and vessel logbooks.
  • Ensure that the navigational watch keeping regimes and practices, including those related to security, are always maintained as per company standing orders.
  • Ensure that the cargo is properly and safely loaded, stowed, secured, and discharged so as at no time to endanger the crew, property, the environment, or the vessel, particularly stability.
  • Ensure that the vessel has sufficient stability in all operations. Always refer to and take into account the Stability Booklet, class Rules and flag State legislation.
  • Ensure that all work is always undertaken in a safe and efficient manner, with care to allow crew members sufficient time for rest periods in accordance with National regulations.

 

Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold at least a AMSA Master less than 35m Near Costal Certificate of Competency.
  • Applicants with AMSA Master class 1 unlimited or under 3000t are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • ASD experience is preferred however, training will be provided to the successful applicant(s). 
  • Valid AMSA DCV Medical
  • Right to live and work in Australia

The position is a Gladstone based position whereby the successful applicant is required to live in the local area of Gladstone and must satisfy a company pre-employment medical.
