selectability is a not-for-profit charity committed to improving mental wellbeing and contributing to suicide prevention across regional Queensland.  

We provide and coordinate NDIS supports, offer clinical services and deliver government funded mental wellbeing, carer and youth support programs. 

We are one of the largest providers of mental health services across our diverse footprint – extending from Cairns to Rockhampton and Palm Island to Mount Isa … and growing.

About the Lifestyle Support Worker role

We are looking for dedicated and committed lifestyle support workers to join our growing team to provide direct care to young people in a residential setting.  Using a trauma-informed approach you will follow a framework of support to meet the child’s developmental needs and provide a safe, nurturing environment the ensures their ongoing wellbeing.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • managing risk and contributing to a safe and healthy work environment by taking personal accountability by identifying and reporting incidents, hazards and injuries in accordance with policy, procedure and legislative requirements.
  • supporting opportunities for children and young people to experience success and realise their potential
  • provide a well-balanced, aged appropriate, nutritional diet including meal preparation and cooking
  • performing household duties including laundry, household and vehicle cleaning, dishwashing, and changing linen

 

Ideally you will have experience working with young people who have complex needs and challenging behaviours.

We are offering roles on a casual basis over a 24 hour in-home support roster so you will need to be available to work day, evening, over-night and early morning shifts.

About you 

To be successful you must: 

  • have a positive attitude 
  • possess clear and effective communication skills 
  • demonstrate computer literacy and accuracy in record management 
  • experience working in a team environment 
  • exhibit an ability to problem solve 
  • be able to follow policies and procedures at all times 
  • be able to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals 

You will also need:

  • a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence 
  • a currently registered, roadworthy, and fully comprehensive vehicle
  • a Positive Notice Working with Children (blue card) (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
  • a current yellow card exemption or an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety & You' completion certificate (visit https://training.ndiscommission.gov.au [link removed] to access this free module). at completion of the course, you will be provided with a certificate of completion which you can forward to hr@selectability.com.au [link removed]
