It’s an exciting time for our business, and an opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic HSEQ Advisor to join our team.  Our business has practically applied aspects of ‘Safety Differently’ and ‘Human and Organisational Performance’ with success, and we are continuing to implement exciting initiatives with our operational teams.  The role is about continuing to move Mitchell Services towards becoming a ‘learning organisation’, with a focus on improving the safety of work and building capacity – not just rolling out standard ‘safety campaigns’. 

There is autonomy, variety, and the ability to have an impact and make a positive change for frontline workers - it can be demanding due to client and operational requirements.  We’re a close team, and you will receive supported personal and professional development.  Our HSE team lead the implementation of our integrated management system (IMS) with our drilling operations teams (non-oil and gas), as well as critical risk management, wellness programs, and organisational learning initiatives.  Your relationship with the HSE team, general managers, field supervisors, work crews and our clients will be critical to your, and our success. 

This role services the energy sector of our business at several client sites within Queensland’s Bowen Basin region. 

You will be an integral part of the field operations team and will interact with other HSE members and leaders within the business.  The successful candidate will work a negotiable roster based on operational requirements, preferably FIFO Brisbane with some periods in the Brisbane Head Office.

The key job tasks and responsibilities include;

  • Provide professional advice and hands-on support to field operations to ensure that Mitchell Services integrated management systems, processes, tools, and field-based leadership programs are effectively implemented
  • Support the implementation of Safety Differently/Human and Organisational Performance practices into operations
  • Work with the general managers, supervisors, and work teams to ensure smooth mobilisations and onboarding of new staff
  • Working with the Lead Training and Development in the implementation of our electronic training and certification systems
  • Conduct investigations, and support operational learning techniques such as learning teams and workplace insights to ensure timely resolution of HSE/Operational issues and to provide recommendations
  • Monitor the effectiveness of our integrated management system and the quality of our critical risk management
  • Development and presentation of HSE engagement programs as required including employee wellness programs
  • Facilitate risk assessments, cultural sessions and learning teams to improve organisational capacity
  • Assist operations and support functions in the successful onboarding of employees and mobilisation of equipment onto our client sites

 

Skills and experience

  • Effective communication skills with all levels of the organisation (this is critical to the role)
  • An understanding and belief in Human and Organisational Performance (HOP/Safety Differently/HRO concepts)
  • Curious and willing to learn by interacting with frontline personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations at all levels, and familiar with the ICAM methodology and the application of a Just Culture model.
  • A formal qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (Diploma and above desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to audit management systems and effectively present to work crews
  • A strong ability to organise and manage competing demands and priorities
  • A personal approach to safety and able to engage with work crews, clients, and senior management
  • Full open manual C Class licence (as a minimum)
