About the role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our Technical Services Team at our North Goonyella Mine. Our North Goonyella mine is an underground longwall mine located 160 kilometers west of Mackay producing a premium quality, high strength coking coal for export markets.
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for the professional delivery of high quality geotechnical and geological services to the North Goonyella mine.
Responsibilities include:
· Achieving the companies HSEC objectives and targets
· Compliance with HSEC Company policies and procedures, the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations
- Provide geotechnical support designs, plan and manage site investigations, undertake field testing, prepare reports and engage clients
- Produce calculations, specifications and drawings to ensure that technical designs will provide an appropriate solution
- Manage relevant use of external consultants for outside expertise as required
- Mentor more junior Engineers with the analysis of information, production of designs and computations
- Ensure delivery of site short term hazard plans / geological models on a timely basis
- Prepare specifications, proposals and other documentation both independently and under supervision
- Responsibility for the results of simple to moderate projects or sections of projects
- Provide administrative support for projects by collecting data, providing project documentation, and performing other general administrative duties
- Develop strategies for the collection and collation of geotechnical / geological information relevant to the mining process
- Provide assistance to the Longwall, Development and Outbye coordinators in the management of strata as well as secondary support contractors
- Provide advice to mine planning processes to meet production and quality targets
- Champion the implementation of site reconciliation processes to achieve company standards
The lifestyle:
This position is offered on a Monday to Friday roster with 1 rostered Friday off per fortnight, and can allow for a residential, DIDO or FIFO lifestyle.
About You:
- Tertiary Geosciences degree, Bachelor of Engineering specialising in geotechnical study;
- Working knowledge of Coal Mine legislation and regulations
- Understanding of mining methods, techniques and sequencing
- Foundation design and/or ground improvement works experience
- A current Queensland driver's licence and capacity to work outdoors
- Computer skills (AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite)
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organisation
- Attention to detail
