The Rockhampton Jockey Club is seeking an experienced professional for the important position of Chief Executive Officer.
Rockhampton, with a population of 75,000, is known as the Beef Capital of Australia and is located on the Tropic of Capricorn approximately 600km north of Brisbane. Rockhampton enjoys 300 days of sunshine each year and is the gateway to the Coast and the Outback.
This is a senior management position, and the primary purpose is to professionally, effectively and efficiently manage all of the Club business activities including maximisation of revenue returns, cost management, event management, customer service, racing operations, venue management, non-race day function and events, food and beverage operations, membership development and member services.
The RJC conducts 37 thoroughbred horse race meetings each year at its Callaghan Park Racecourse, including the popular Winter Racing Carnival in June each year which culminates with the running of the $150,000 Rockhampton Cup. The Club also conducts a popular Spring Carnival, with a major race meeting that coincides with Caulfield Cup Day. Callaghan Park also hosts our tenant club, Rocky Amateurs, with their fabulous slot race, The Archer. With prizemoney of $775,000 in 2023 it is the richest race in provincial Queensland.
The Club completed a major $6.5M turf track redevelopment in January 2010 which resulted in one of the best racing surfaces in Australia. Callaghan Park is also a popular training centre with up to 200 horses working daily at Callaghan Park and approximately 160 horses stabled on course in Club managed stables.
In May 2012, the Club completed a $2M redevelopment of the Members’ Grandstand that is now being further extended and enhanced with a $3M project that is nearing competition.
You will be responsible for a team of 4 Administration Staff, 10 Racecourse Staff and a large number of casuals. Previous thoroughbred racing industry experience would be an advantage. Public relations skills and a passion for networking with key stakeholders are essential.
A remuneration package commensurate with the responsibility and profile of the role is on offer. The total package including salary, car and phone will be in excess of $130,000 per annum.
