The Facility

The Hospital is a 305-bed facility and is the main referral hospital for Queensland, now providing integrated cancer care services in Queensland in the newly established building boasting state of the art medical equipment. The Hospital has four operating theatres and two procedure rooms. The operating theatre complex is supported by an 8-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/High Dependency Unit (HDU). The Department is accredited for specialist training and is involved in teaching and research. The Hospital Anaesthesia team provides great care for obstetrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), ophthalmology, gastroenterology, and dental procedures. It delivers a preadmission clinic and acute pain rounds and provides sedation for medical procedures. Having state of the art facilities the hospital has been undergoing a number of redevelopment projects at a cost of $324 million the last of which are due to be completed later this year. The projects have included the construction of a regional cancer centre, a new Emergency Department, Rehabilitation Unit, Maternity and Paediatrics Unit, Dialysis Unit, and a Learning and Development Centre, together with the consolidation of a number of outlying services into the main Hospital complex.
